National ID Card & Criminal Records

For any consular service, any Moroccan national has to be registered with the Consulate General.


Use of the National ID Card (CNIE)

The Moroccan National Electronic ID Card (CNIE) is the official document that allows any citizen to prove his identity and thereby his Moroccan nationality. It is mandatory for all citizens aged over 18 years and is valid for ten (10) years.

The CNIE is prerequired for the issuance of the biometric passport for all Moroccan citizens aged over twelve (12) years old.

The physical presence of the individual applying for a CNIE or a CNIE renewal is required at the Consulate General of Montreal (for fingerprinting). No request is accepted by postal mail or email.


Individuals that want to receive their new CNIE or their criminal records by postal mail, have to provide the Consulate with a prepaid Xpress return envelope so that we can send your documents to your home address.(A signature is required at the reception of said documents).

Holders of the old National ID (CIN) are required to replace their old CIN by aa new CNIE, even if the old card is not expired.

The CNIE is issued and renewed in Morocco and processing it takes a minimum of 6 weeks to be returned to the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Morocco in Montreal.

Prerequisite for obtaining the CNIE :

    Physical presence of the individual requesting the CNIE in order to take finger prints;
  • Individuals aged from 12 to 18 years can only request a CNIE if they are applying for a biometric passport on the same day;
  • 18 years old or over.

Application for a CNIE establishment, renewal, or duplicate CNIE (in case of loss)

In order to ensure a quick and efficient processing of your requests for a CNIE renewal and to avoid any delays, please present yourselves to the Consulate General of Montreal with all the below-mentioned documents:
  1. An « application form » (please fill and print the form beforehand);
  2. Consular ID;
  3. Old CIN or CNIE (in case of a renewal);
  4. Two (2) recent color photos (please see photo specifications), -35 mm x 45 mm format- ;
  5. Submit one of the following documents is essential in Arabic and French with complete filiation (your full name, the full names of your parents and of your paternal and maternal grandparents are required to be included by Arabic and French) : 
  • An extract of birth certificate (original) (not older than 6 months), issued by the Civil Status Office of the place of your birth; in Arabic and French with complete filiation (your full name, the full names of your parents and of your paternal and maternal grandparents are required to be included by Arabic and French)
ou bien,
  • An Integral Copy of Civil Status Register (not older than 6 months), issued by the Civil Status Office of the place of your birth; in Arabic and French with complete filiation (your full name, the full names of your parents and of your paternal and maternal grandparents are required to be included by Arabic and French)
ou bien,
  • A photocopy of the page you regarding your family booklet -new version- (with presentation of this booklet). in Arabic and French with complete filiation (your full name, the full names of your parents and of your paternal and maternal grandparents are required to be included by Arabic and French)
ou bien,
  • A photocopy of the first page of your father's family booklet -new version- (with presentation of this Booklet) + a photocopy of the page for you. in Arabic and French with complete filiation (your full name, the full names of your parents and of your paternal and maternal grandparents are required to be included by Arabic and French)
If you are born outside Morocco, your birth certificate or the full copy of the Register of Civil status, in French and Arabic, has to be issued by the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Morocco in the circumscription relevant to your place of birth. You can also apply for one at the Annexe of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rabat.
The "Fiche Individuelle de l'État-Civil" is not accepted.
  1. If establishing the NIC Card for the 1st time, add a recent proof of residence (telephone bill, electricity, lease, Permanent Resident Card or Canadian Driving Licence), only required for your registration if you are not already registered.
  2. The original copy of the ‘extract from the court ruling’ or the ‘ ministerial decree’ in case of changes or modification of your names and last names and/or your birthday, number of civil act or parentage.
  3. If you have just acquired a Moroccan, kindly include a certificate of Moroccan citizenship +a copy of an identification document (passport, etc.) as a proof of your previous citizenship.
  4. An Xpress-post prepaid return envelope from Canada Post, so we may send you your criminal records at your home address (a signature is required upon reception). (This is optional if you desire to have your CNIE Card sent to you by mail).
  5. « Fees » must be paid in cash or by bank order made payable to the « Consulate of Morocco ». Money orders from Canada Post, Western Union or Money Transfer as well as personalized cheques are not accepted.
                                                           
Request for Criminal records


Your request for issuance of Criminal Record must include the following documents :
  1. The « CNIE/FA identification form » (Please fill and print the form) - (Any form submitted to the Consulate must necessarily be signed in front of a Consulate Officier or a Comissionner for Oaths);
  2. Copy of your consular ID ;
  3. Double sided photocopy of your CIN/CNIE,
    or
    A photocopy of page two (2) of your biometric passport,
    or
    A photocopy of pages two (2) and three (3) of the old passport formats;
  4. An Xpress-post prepaid return envelope from Canada Post, so we may send you your criminal records at your home address (a signature is required upon reception). (This is optional if you desire to have your criminal records sent to you by mail).
  5. « Fees » must be paid in cash or by bank order made payable to the « Consulate of Morocco ». Money orders from Canada Post, Western Union or Money Transfer as well as personalized cheques are not accepted.

Reception of the CNIE or Criminal Records
                                             
The Consulate General will alert you by email when it receives your new CNIE or your Criminal Records so you may come pick them up.
 
The CNIE or Criminal Records is given to its holder in person upon presentation the deposit slip.

If you are unable to come in person take out your documents you can :
  • Assign by procuration, another person to come in your name ( procuration form must be completed, printed and legalized at the Consulate General when you submit your request.
  • Ask for your documents to be sent to your home address (please include an Xpress-post prepaid return envelope with your application).

Photo Specification

- 45mmx35mm with the face between 32mm and 36mm.
- Light blue or light grey background. Your photograph must not include any shades in the background.
